ALLSEA: A Panthalassa Zinelet
A downloadable undersea zine
The year is uncertain.
Somewhere deep in the ocean, the unsuspecting populace of an underwater colony station finds itself afflicted by a spiritual maladie of unknown origins, wreaking havoc on its carefully designed social structure.
The early signs of apathetic collapse.
More and more of the station's denizens begin retreating into apathy and isolation, including those tasked with weaving the fabric of society itself. Slowly but surely, the wheels begin grinding down, turning slightly slower every passing day.
Many attempts are made to stop this.
The elder Methus, de-facto social leader of the colony, cannot allow this rot to spread any further. His attempts at rekindling his citizens' spirits are many, leveraging the countless vocations he's had time to hone in centuries of continued operation. One such attempts, devised with the help of a few notable station denizens (and one energetic virtual helper), is a purposefully anachronistic, page-based, visual-text file that, upon completion, would be mass-sent to every device connected to the station's intranet servers.
A cultural reporting document, known in another time as a "zine".
ALLSEA is a 28-page zine introducing you, an interloping being from a time and place uncertain, to the strange yet familiar world of PANTHALASSA: the debut point-and-click adventure by MEIA CALÇA. Outside of the game's diegesis, this zine was designed, written and laid out with their help and blessing.
All in-game assets depicted, such as character art and fish renders, were sourced from MEIA CALÇA’s development archives, and all original writing therein was vetted by the team before finalization, making sure the voices of each character were consistent with their in-game characterization.
The zine comes in two versions: one with a (pdf-fillable) Notes section in the style of classic videogame manuals, and one with only the zine segments and a lower pagecount (24 pages) for cheaper printing.
Keep an eye out for strange details, interloper.
